Canon releases new lens, EF-S 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6 IS

Canon lens

Canon released a New lens along with the 50D announcement. I think this lens will be the ultimate travel lens for us Canon users. Nikon has had an 18-200 for awhile now and I’ve been on the look out for a Canon compatable clone for a long time. Now I’ll just grab one of these. No word on the pricing yet.

Compact, lightweight and a wide magnification range - this standard zoom lens features a wide focal length range from normal to telephoto equivalent to 29-320mm in the 35mm format. It features an Optical Image Stabilizer for up to 4-stops of effective correction even at full zoom. Since Canon’s optical image stabilization system is in the lens, not in the camera, you can see the stabilized, steadier images through the viewfinder. And the circular aperture can give beautiful background blur effects. This new wide zoom ratio EF-S lens delivers excellent high-speed performance at an affordable price.

More Rumors Abound. The new Nikon D90 - CONFIRMED

nikon-d90-pic-08-25-08 More Rumors Abound. The new Nikon D90 - CONFIRMED

Update 08.26.08: Rumors are turning up true right and left. USA today let out the dirt on the D90. Most the specs look pretty normal, except this baby also shoots HD video clips. Not a bad add on. Looks like another win for Nikon. Here’s their official press release.

I think most of us are getting a bit tired of rumors, but I always try to keep reader from both Canon & Nikon camps up to date on the bigger ones.

Engadget is reporting on this shot the the Nikon D90 that seems to have been leaked on Targets website. It supposed to sport a 12mp sensor, 3″ lcd, 11 AF points, and ISO 3200. Nothing too earth shaking, but this should be a nice incremental upgrade. Besides, Nikon’s been sending out some pretty crazy stuff lately. They don’t all have to be ground breaking. Do they?

Canon EOS 50D coming soon -CONFIRMED-

50d_big Canon EOS 50D coming soon -CONFIRMED-

 * 08.26.08 UPDATE! The 50D is official via Canon’s press release.  Shipping in Oct. Here’s the product page on Canon’s site.

This is yet another Canon rumor, but it does seem to have decent foundation. It seems these pics of the up coming 50D were leaked on Canon’s Japan website. It seems to me that the 40D just came out, but I guess with Canon having now fallen behind Nikon in the game,it stands to reason the whole line will be revamped.

Rumor has it this will be a 15mp body with ISO levels up to 12,800. This makes sense since it would be pitting itself against the Nikon D300.

The world is still waiting on the 5D MK2 (7D), and here we are talking about a EOS 50D. I say their both likely to be released late this summer, to fall. Canon has to make a move soon, but again, just rumors. More on Engadet, and Gizmondo. Thanks to FullMetal in the forums.

CPPOTW - The Tamrac Modular Acessory Belt

mbx5398 CPPOTW - The Tamrac Modular Acessory Belt
~ Cool Photo Product Of The Week ~

I‘ve mentioned this before, but I wanted to officially make it CPPOTW. The Tamrac Modular Accessory Belt is something that is not standard equipment on a shoot, and if I’m without it I feel a bit naked.

It’s a simple adjustable empty belt. You buy only the pouches you want (Tamrac’s modular Accessory system) and clip them onto the belt. The pouches are tough, padded, and zippered, keeping things safe inside.

When I shoot weddings (or just  about anything else) I have this belt, loaded with my lenses, extra cards, cords etc. There’s a broad range of pouches you can add, including one big enough to hold those 70-200 2.8 lenses many of us have.

You can get the Modular Accessory Belt for around 30 bucks CPPOTW - The Tamrac Modular Acessory Belt  on Amazon, and The Pouches CPPOTW - The Tamrac Modular Acessory Belt are 7-15 apiece. You’ll probably be in about 100 when all said, but having your gear handy and safe is so worth it. I love this product, and I’ve been using it for over a year now.

Pro Photo Show is taking on the World

world Pro Photo Show is taking on the WorldWe already get a significant amount of traffic from photographers across the globe. It’s easy to be so used to your own language that you just think it’s normal for everyone. English is automatic for me, but not for everyone.

I was reviewing stats last night and decided it was time to look into more choices for our non US photo friends. In the last 30 days PPS has had visitors from 126 countries.

I was up till 2:30 last night and now if you look to the left you’ll see the language panel. Just click your a flag, and the page will be translated into one of 21 languages. Thanks to the Global Translator The system sends the text to a translation engine, and then the site caches it. For that reason you may have to return in a few minutes to get the translation. Here’s and example of our popular Lightroom Preset Directory translated to Spanish.

Are the translations perfect? I doubt it, but it brings us one step closer to each other across the globe and I’m pretty excited about it. I’m also working on implementing this  feature on our sister site Seim Effects. There’s still more to be done of course. The podcast is English only of course, but we making progress, and who knows what future technolighy will bring us.
