Adobe gives Sneak Peek of Lightroom 1.1 at Scott Kelby’s Seminar

Scott Kelby’s new Lightroom Seminar had Tom Hogarty (Lightroom Product Manager) as a guest. He showed the audience some new features that will be coming in the upgrade.

Here is what Scott Kelby had to say:

“Here’s a quick rundown of what Tom showed the crowd:

He showed how you can now easily export one library of photos (now called “catalogs”) and import that catalog into an existing library (perfect for people who work on a laptop on location, then need to merge these photos with their desktop studio machine).

The “Keyword Stamper” has evolved into a much more useful tool, which now lets “Spray” (rather than individually stamping, so it’s much faster), anything from keywords to Develop settings, or rotation settings. This totally wow’d everybody when they saw it in action.

Version 1.1 brings order to your presets and templates as these sections now have folders, so you can easily separate your custom presets and imported presets and templates from the default sets.
But the big, big hit of his presentation was definitely the new Sharpening panel, which pretty much blew everybody away, especially when used with the new Clarity control. This brought cheers from the crowd, which were only matched by Tom’s announcement that Adobe was making this update available for free!!! (we don’t have an official release date, other than “it’s coming soon). “

So as you can see we are all in for a great treat when the upgrade is released. Oh, and the upgrade is FREE… so that’s going to be great.

Panasonic announces 12 megapixel Lumix

12 megapixels, a Leica lens, 3.6 optical zoom and an optical image stabilizer. What more could you ask for? How about wide screen HD video? Yep it’s got that too!

It’s not a DSLR, but many pro’s would agree that having a great point and shoot around is an real asset. The sophisticated Panasonic Lumix DMC-FX100 brings many great features to the table, and looks good to top it off. Check out all the details over at Let’s Go Digital

Nikon Coolpix P5000

The folks over at Digital Photography Review just posted thier review if the Nikon Coolpix P5000. The P5000 is considered to be “the ‘flagship’ in Nikon’s Coolpix compact digital camera range.”

Nikon P5000

It boasts a long list of great compact digital camera features including a 10 megapixel sensor. Even though it is not a “professional” camera, there was one feature that caught my eye. Maybe it’s because I am such a huge Nikon fan, but I really liked the camera’s finish. It is similar to that of the Nikon SLRs. It’s that black, textured metal surface with a nice rubber grip for your hand. In a world of shinny silver and gold compact cameras it is refreshing to have one that looks like it’s big brothers and sisters.

DPReview.com always does very thorough and indepth reviews of products so check it out.

Sony Alpha DSLR’s

More details are surfacing on Sony’s up and coming DSLR lineup. Though most of us are currently Canon or Nikon folks, competition is great and it looks like Sony may be bringing us some good specs.

Time will tell since Sony often finds a way to botch things that would otherwise be great, but the more competition the better gear we end up with.

Part two talks in more detail about using Photomatix Pro, and how to use it to get a great looking HDR image. Theres also an HDR Flickr group you should check out, and you can see seom of myHDR work on my own Flickr page, also here is the HDR panoramic photo that I made.

People in HDR, and here is a few that I shot to give you some ideas…
This was taken at sunset. The light was very low, and I had to use a high iso. The resulting image came out a bit grainy, but the effect was very dramatic. It gives us some food for thought! Even though this is not what you would think when you thought about HDR, it gives a different aspect and has a lot of mood.

B&W HDR

This shot was taken at the beach around sunset. Again a three shot HDR using auto bracketing, it gives off plenty of drama and though the subject has to stand very still the resulting image is just what the doctor ordered.

This is another Senior shot. Doing this is HDR gave it lots of dynamic detail that would not otherwise be possible.

Pick of the week this time was submitted by listener Greg. It a nice (and simple) javs script you can use on your website to make a sideshow. It’s free so just read the direction and your off.

That about does it for this week. You can send questions or comments to prophotoshow@gmail.com. Have a great week… Gavin
